Please add Opus to Medibuntu for Precise

Asked by Teg

At this moment, the Opus codec (libopus and opus-tools) is included with Quantal and above, but there is a version of the codec available at https://launchpad.net/~opus-developers/+archive/stable or https://launchpad.net/~n-muench/+archive/vlc which can be downloaded and included with Medibuntu. I ask this because the Ubuntu team refuses to add new packages to Precise, and with Precise being supported for 5 years, then this important codec needs to get out there.

Plus, VLC 2.0.4 and above are advertised to use this codec and offering something the main repositories don't offer so VLC and other audio programs can use would be a plus.

Medibuntu includes packages than can't be added to Ubuntu for licensing reasons. This is clearly not the case here so we won't include the package.

Maybe an inclusing in precise-backports could be possible ?

So it will only be included if there is a licensing issue? The omission in the official repositories is due to their rules of no new packages added to a distro that has already been released. Technically, its not a licensing issue like you said, but a maybe the refusal by Ubuntu team falls into the general "Ubuntu won't take it for Precise" and this can be the exception?

Can you help with this problem?
