mozilla-acroread package for amd64

Asked by fudo

Is the package "mozilla-acroread" going to be available also for the amd64 architecture?
I just found out that it's only for i386, at the moment.

i386 plugins won't work with an amd64 firefox, unless you use nspluginwrapper. I'll check if it works with nspluginwrapper, and if that's ok, I'll update the packages.

According to the nspluginwrapper homepage, it works for wrapping the acrobat plugin (at least for version 7, don't know if someone tested it with version 8). I'll try manually installing the version 8 plugin using nspluginwrapper and report back here if it works...

I was not asking about i386 plugins, but about amd64 ones: apparently
they do not exist yet. Why? Will they be released soon? Thank you.

That's what David's was all about: amd64 plugins don't exist and I don't know if they'll ever do, you've got to ask adobe for that. In the meantime, as David said, you can try to see if it works with nspluginwrapper
Cheers

@fudo: Sadly there is no amd64 acroread at the moment, as Adobe somehow decided to ignore the 64-bit crowd...

I just tried wrapping the acroread 8 plugin (from the 32-bit medibuntu package) using nspluginwrapper (nspluginwrapper -i /path/to/nppdf.so) and it seems to work fine here.

Btw, a 32-bit firefox or xulrunner package (or some other source of 32-bit firefox/mozilla libraries) would be nice in medibuntu, to get rid of the annoying "Could not load gtkembedmoz.so" error when starting up acroread. Maybe i should file a wishlist bug about that...
