Me-TV freezes on DVB-T "idle" channel

Asked by Marco

Hi
I'm very new to Linux, and also to Me-TV. However I am familiar with DVB-T applications running on Windows.
I've Ubuntu 9.04 installed on my PC, and the PC has a Cinergy 1400 DVB-T on board, it is an old model from Terratec.
I have to say it worked as a charm since the beginning. The only annoying thing is this one:

In my area (Milano, Italy) there are around 90 boadcasts available, but many are not featuring any video or audio.
Some are experimental channels, others are "service" channels. I made a mistake and imported into the channel list one of these channels. If you tune it, then there's no way to change to another channel. It locks to that channel and the only thing you can do is to terminate the application. Once you restart Me-TV it loks on that stupid channel again.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing, but although the procedure said it would have canceled the settings, it did not.
I sorted the problem out only removing one of the 2 files who are in the .Me-TV directory, Me-TV.db.

Afte that Me-TV starts with the request to scan for channels, so if I do not import that channel again I should be fine.
But should this happen again is there a better way than deleting the Me-TV.db file?

Thanks/Ciao

Marco

Hi Marco,

Can you please confirm what version you are using? If it's a recent version (> 0.9.X) then you might be able to use the -s option.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael
I got the application typing:
sudo apt-get Me-tv

it gave me the 0.7.16 version. Probably it is not that much new.
Maybe I should install a more recent version, I'll se if I have the capabilities, cause I'm new to Linux.

Thanks/Marco

If I add the two lines of the repositories to the sources file and run:

sudo apt-get install Me-tv

will it upgrade to the last version? or do I need to remove the 7.16 version before?

Thanks/Marco

* First, add the lines to the /etc/apt/sources.list file
* sudo apt-get update
* sudo apt-get install me-tv

You do not need to uninstall the old version.

Thanks,

Michael

Ciao Michael
Thanks a lot, I updated the application, now I've got 0.10.1.
2 things:

back to the original question, what do you actually mean by saying use the -s option ?

also, in the area where I live (Milan) there's much more muxes receivable then those the application find with the scan for it-Milano. To get most of them I had to use the scans for Varese, Switzerland, and Roma.
Amazingly, the swiss mux you can find it scanning with the it-Rome settings.
Can't the application do just a plain scan, getting all what is available?
Where do the files for each city come from?

Grazie/Marco

Hi Marco,

-s option: You can run Me TV on the command line with `me-tv -s`
Initial scan files: see https://answers.launchpad.net/me-tv/+faq/109

Thanks,

Michael
