Error "Zeitüberschreitung beim lesen"

Asked by MarioGirotti

For specific channels I only get an error popup "Zeitüberschreitung beim Lesen" (something like 'timelimit hit while reading'). This happens since 0.8.10 and was fine for 0.5.x on Xubuntu Jaunty.

Since 0.5.x has the time bug for record scheduling, I have to use the actual build to be able to record show after 2 o'clock pm...

Me TV has changed a lot since 0.5.x. Are you able to build from source or are you using the pre-packaged versions?

problem exist in pre-packed versions and also in own build from source.
In the meanwhile I identified where the message is coming from in the source.
After I changed locally the

POLL_TIMEOUT from 5000 to 10000

in dvb_demuxer.cc I am able again to tune all channels.
Maybe this timeout should be changeable/configurable during runtime via the GUI.

Well, sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Because your question is marked as German I don't automatically get notified.

Now, in revision 432 of the development branch I've added an option to set the read_timeout (in seconds) from the command line. 10 seconds seems very high and I'd like to keep the default at 5 seconds. There is a reason to keep this value low, the scanning takes longer because it waits for longer when it fails to tune. I've been told that there's a bug with the new read_timeout option but I can't replicate it.

If I get a more users with the same issues I'll change this default to 10 seconds.

Thanks,

Michael

zienna, did the solution solve your issue?

So, you are both in Germany, right? Does this only happen on a specific transponder? Can you please tell me what devices your are using?

Seriously, 10 seconds does not sound right. It's way to long to have to wait. I'm think that there might be an issue with the device or transponder. Do other applications have the same 10 second delay before you see video?

Hi again,

first: the commandline option for the read_timeout works great for me. Thanks for this.

I am using a ZAP-TV 250Mini USB DVB-T Stick. Also under WinXP with the orignal drive switching/tuning channels is really really slow....

Under my Xununtu 9.04 me-tv names that device WideView USB DVB-T.

In addition I guess my reception parameters are not the best since I am using a room-antenna. Me-tv indicates a signal strength of 27% ...

Nevertheless this 'timeout' was never an issue with me-tv 0.5.33.

The current software 8.12 was installed at archlinux and it was successfull.
It doesn't work by all transponders and there is always the error : time exceedance
with XINE or with M-Player it works . The hardware is artec usb T1.

and well .. right , I'm living in germany.
