Cannot record anymore, changing preferences seems to have no effect...

Asked by Cuppa-Chino

I had compile 0.7.2 and taken it from repo, I just cannot record anymore. Me-TV claims to be recording but I cannot find the file.
Also I have changed preferences but cannot find any config file etc that has changed, I cannot find where these are stored to check if my changes are applied. To check I had deleted the whole .me-tv directory and reinstall after a purge. All of which yielded no success.

Am posting this as a question before filing bug, maybe I am just missing something.

NB Have been able to record previously, am running Intrepid with 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Tue Nov 4 19:33:06 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux, locations I tried to save on had ample space. Video card is a Twinhan but recognised as Zarlink (never caused any issues).

Hi,

Yes, I just upgraded to Intrepid myself and had the same issue. The issue is the 'xshm' driver in xine. Switch to a different video driver, like 'xv', kill all xine processes then restart me-tv. I'll be looking at a more elegant solution to this in 0.7.3 (before this weekend). Just to be clear, this is not a Me TV issue, the issue is with xine (xine-ui). I'm talking with xine upstream at the moment and will look at fixing this soon.

Thanks,

Michael

does not help me, have tried that.
what settings do you use for audio? do you use gnome or kde?
do you also have the problem of not finding channels.conf et al (I can locate in console as supposedly present but cannot edit or see in nautilus)?

The settings are now held in GConf.

I use the ALSA audio driver, I find it most reliable. I use GNOME, Me TV is a GNOME based applicaiton.

Use Ctrl-H in nautilus to show hidden files, is that you issue?

Ok I have found the settings and they do respond, thanks.

on the channels.conf I realise that to see hidden files I need Ctrl+H but I still cannot find the channels.conf which is not a big issue as I have all my channels.

I have run me-tv -v

and I get output like this:
19/11/08 20:22:46: No output connected
19/11/08 20:22:46: Writing PAT/PMT header
19/11/08 20:22:46: EPG event 36897 added
19/11/08 20:22:46: Exception: Failed to read data from demuxer: Value too large for defined data type
19/11/08 20:22:46: Exception in EPG thread: Failed to read data from demuxer: Value too large for defined data type
19/11/08 20:22:46: EPG event 38783 added
19/11/08 20:22:46: EPG event 38782 added

downgraded to 0.5.3 and recording worked straight away

any ideas where I can look to fix this?

There's no channels.conf anymore, channels are held in a SQLite dataebase.

What's the issue? Are you saying that it's still not recording?

It was late and I did not explain well.

with 0.7.2 I can view programs, it claims to record them but there is no file (of the recording) to be found this is irrespective of the directory I am using to store and using the xv alsa settings you mentioned.

I have run verbose mode and the output I get is as above but Exception appear irrespective of recording or simple viewing.

Subsequently I have downgrade to 0.5.3 and recording works right off the bat.

Sorry for not making myself clear and thank you greatly for bearing with me, please let me know if you need anymore system output, want me to run different parameters etc

kind regards

The exception is trivial. Mostly you can ignore it. It's saying that Me TV had trouble reading from your device because it didn't read fast enough. If you're getting video then that's all you need to record.

Have you checked you recording directory in the preferences?

yes as said I have tried the desktop, home partition, a different HD, made a new folder -- I tried upgrading again, same result me-tv claims to be recording but no file turning up anywhere

When you saying that you are downgrading to 0.5.3, do you actually mean 0.5.30? i.e. that's what's in Intrepid. Can you pipe the entire "--verbose" to a file and attach it?

Oh, oh, oh ... sorry, this is all my fault, I didn't read your original post correctly. Your compiling from the source repository. And yes I can confirm that I just fixed an issue with the logic for recording. Thanks for picking that up and sorry again for not understanding.

Michael, just to try and ensure you have understood me:

I have BOTH compiled from source and used intrepid repo for 0.7.2 and had no success to record.

When I downgrade to 0.5.30 from repo (typo above) and all works fine.

Please see here: http://pastebin.com/m63b379b7

for the verbose output, I do not think it shows a lot - but I am not sure what to look for :)

Hmmm, well I maybe that bug is in 0.7.2 but no one else has told me about it, interesting. Maybe no one is using it ;)

Anyway, I just uploaded a fix for that. Please try it and see if that fixes your issue.
