Does xine have the same issue?

Yes xine does have the same issue but I have no problem getting sound using totem.

My point was to establish the validity of the statement "The problem only exists in Me TV". Now, if you can work out how to get xine to work then you can apply the same solution to Me TV. Try using the `xine -A` option to specify the audio driver. If you find one that works you can modify the ~/.me-tv/me-tv.config to specify the audio_driver.

I managed to get both xine and totem working with the one sound driver the oss driver but me tv still has no sound.

Have you changed the setting in the ~/.me-tv/me-tv.config to specify the audio_driver?

No. I am not sure how to do that could not find anything in the help file. Did a search for me.tv.config but could not find the file.

1. Open ~/.me-tv/me-tv.config using a text editor
2. Find and replace,

  key="xine.audio_driver" value="auto"

with,

  key="xine.audio_driver" value="oss"

Thanks,

Michael

Thanks Michael that fixed the problem. had quite a bit of trouble finding the me-tv.config file but have copied the information from another help file and have posted it here in case someone else reads this and has the same trouble. Me-tv is an excellent bit of software especially for a new Linux user like me because is is so easy to use, but perhaps it could be even easier if the option to change the audio driver was on the GUI.
How to find me-tv config file
In File Browser->View Click on "Show Hidden Files"
- then scroll through your home directory until you find .me-tv
- in ~/.me-tv, you should find these files:
 - channels.conf
 - epg.xml
 - me-tv.config
 - me-tv.log
 - video.fifo
 - xine.config

hello, me too...no sound with my externeal usb soundcard.
xine works here when i ad this to asoundrc
  pcm.usb-audio {
          type plug
          slave.pcm "hw:1"
       }

       ctl.usb-audio {
          type hw
          card 1
       }
then adding "usb-audio" to device.alsa_front_device in the xine gui under "device used for stereo output". does someone know how to tell me-tv to use the alsa (a far i understand this) driver with this usb-audio output
