Doesn't Scan Anything

Asked by MMarking

I can't get the latest version of your program to scan anything. I use a Twinhan 1022 card. The config file is pointed at the correct location, "/dev/dvb/adapter0/", the program starts up and I choose Galaxy 23 and it just gives messages like this in the terminal:

WARNING: >>> tuning failed!!!
>>> tune to: (tuning failed)
WARNING: >>> tuning failed!!!
>>> tune to:
WARNING: >>> tuning failed!!!

The GUI shows messages like this:

Failed to tune to transponder at 1120000
Failed to tune to transponder at 1120000
Failed to tune to transponder at 1132000
Failed to tune to transponder at 1132000
Failed to tune to transponder at 1200000
Failed to tune to transponder at 1200000
Failed to tune to transponder at 1205000
Failed to tune to transponder at 1205000
Failed to tune to transponder at 1254000
Failed to tune to transponder at 1254000
Failed to tune to transponder at 1366000
Failed to tune to transponder at 1366000
Failed to tune to transponder at 1504000
Failed to tune to transponder at 1504000

My card works with MythTV no problem. I stopped mythbackend before running your program and it doesn't make a difference.

I don't know much about satellite cards. It is a satellite card, right?

Do you have to position it? Or is it fixed?

Yes, it is a DVB-S card. Well I think I found the problem. What exactly are you doing with the scan and the LO frequency? I was able to generate my own channels.conf like this:

scan /usr/share/doc/dvb-utils/examples/scan/dvb-s/Galaxy10R-123w -U -l 10750 > channels.conf

This produced a file of which Me-TV only recognizes 5 channels out of 50. Also, Me-TV won't tune any of the channels because of the LO freq. What are you setting the LNB L.O. frequency to? My Ku LNB needs 10750 kHz for the LO.

For example, when I choose a channel on 11731 kHz, your program says "Me TV-Message: 05/20/2008 23:05:31 - Tuning to transponder at 1131000 ..." This is incorrect for a Ku LNBF in the USA. 11731-10750 = 981000 not 1131000. Can you add something to your prog to choose your own LO or tell me where to change it?

Like I said, I don't know much about DVB-S ;) A guy from Germany spent some time with me on IRC getting it working. If you've got the time, then I suggest that you join #me-tv on FreeNode to help me make your changes. I wrote the DVB-S code about 6 months ago and I don't remember much about it because I don't use it.
