clear qam support

Asked by jmor9651

I installed your software [ ME TV ] works very good . I like the auto channels.conf file setup. Is ther anyway that channels.conf file can be used with kaffeine ?

After it scanned for stations it found 2 on the analog side of the cable. I was wondering it the tuner supports clear qam ?

Kaffeine has a superior scanning system to Me TV's and should be able to generate a channels file for you. I don't think that kaffeine will be able to use Me TV's channels.conf but that's a question for a kaffeine person, not me. I don't know much about kaffeine and haven't used it in years.

I don't know if it works with clear QAM because I haven't specifically tried to implement it. It might, let me know how you go. I don't really understand what it's for.

OK Clear QAM is what the cable tv companies use to transport their digital
tv lineups. Most are encrypted but some are not those are the ones i would
like to recieve. I have the card working in wondows but i have not been
able to figure out how to get the channel list that it finds. Thanks for
yor time it works very good but it is not what i was looking for. It
recieves the analog cable channels but not the QAM256 channels [ digital ].

I don't understand, Me TV supports DVB-C (QAM) and has done for a long time. I don't know what "Clear QAM" is. Me TV is a DVB (digital only) application so I don't know how you are receiving analog TV.

Let me help. ATSC is used for OTA digital signals in the US. QAM is used for cable. Most cable channels are scrambled, but cable operators are required to carry local broadcast channels in QAM without scrambling. This is what is known as "Clear QAM".

BTW, Kaffeine CANNOT scan for ATSC channels. MeTV is clearly superior in this regard. For Kaffeine, you have to have something else generate a channels.conf file like MeTV or SCAN, then convert it using a special program to the Kaffeine format. A real pain in the butt. The mess you have to go thru is documented here:

http://hftom.free.fr/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=155&sid=152465bf77e6d25535b8defbea551b20

Oh, and after you are done with all of that, Kaffeine will only give audio with SOME of the channels!
