Support more than one tuner

Asked by Maurizio Daniele

I've just buy a "dual tuner" DVB card, so I've got /dev/dvb/adapter0 and /dev/dvb/adapter1 available.
What about to support more than one tuner at the same time?

With this future upgrade, we'll can record a channel while watching another one simply selecting "first or second tuner" in schedule, or maybe record two channels at the same time!

At the moment it seems not possible to launch me-tv using adapter1. Simply changing me-tv.config doesn't work.

Thanks for this wonderful software :)

This feature is being tracked by the blueprint at https://blueprints.launchpad.net/me-tv/+spec/mulitple-tuners but you are the first person that has shown any interest in it. If you'd like to see this feature implemented then I suggest that you subscribe to the issue so I have a record that someone wants it. I might look at it for 0.6.

If you are a developer then feel free to implement it yourself and send on your changes.

Also, there's a -c option that allows you to select a different configuration file to use (i.e. `me-tv -c /home/michael/.me-tv/me-tv2.config`). This should allow you to run another instance of Me TV which uses a different device. Not quite as good as dual tuner support but it is something.

This is completely untested.

I also have a dual tuner and would be happy to run 2 instances of MeTV if this is possible.
I've tried the example given but get big problems with the video on both instances when the second instance starts. I'm probably being a bit dim and need to do more than just create a 2nd config file (ref adapter1) in the same directory. The string of abuse I get from Terminal includes:-
(me-tv:6489): Me TV-CRITICAL **: Exception message: 'Failed to read data from demuxer: Value too large for defined data type'
Me TV-Message: 15/06/08 20:31:11 - Exception in EPG thread: Failed to read data from demuxer: Value too large for defined data type
Not multiplexed? 0xe0

If anyone has used this approach and got it working I'd be glad to hear about it (at least then I'll keep trying!).

Hi,
I provided a small howto describing how I accomplished using 2 tuner-cards with 2 of Me-TV.
It is located here:

If this doesn't work for you, please post a question, and I will try and help.

Regards,
Timf
