VIsualization for DVB-T Radio?

Asked by Plafuro

Hello,

Would it be difficult / make sense to add libvisual support for radio channels?

I've used me-tv for a couple of days now and i must say that i'm already very impressed by it. Keep up the good work.

I'm trying to find information on libvisual but it seems that that the only thing that's still going is the wiki page which hasn't been touched in 2 years. Do you have more information?

In the UK, digital radio stations broadcast their logo and "artist - title" now playing info. It would be really cool if you could display that. Kaffeine can't do it :(

Unforunately this is the only picture I can find of what I mean but you get the idea - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/news/pm/galleries/903/53/

Unfortunately i don't have any extra info.. but maybe we could contact for instance the totem developers and ask for support... Or try to figure it out from their code?

I write from Germany and don't really know if the information that Tom mentioned is available for us, but it looks indeed like a great feature....

If you need me to get in contact with oder developers with experience in libvisual I could try...

Cheers

I don't really like supporting libraries that seem to be abandoned. If you want to support them then go ahead, I'll include your changes.

I've looked into the totem source and I see no mention of libvisual. How do you know that they use it?

Well in totem you have the chance to select between different visualizations.

There are several active projects that use libvisual in order to generate visualizations. The most notorious is projectM, an opengl implementation of MilkDrop

Just to make my position clear, I don't need this feature because I don't use Me TV for raidio. Me TV does not support Radio stations and they have only worked in the latest versions because of a unfortunate change I had to make to help someone with an issue. Like I've said before, I'm sure that there are plenty of applications that would do this better.

All that said, if you would like to develop this feature or set up a prototype then I'll happily include it. But right now, there are some very important things that need to be done and I don't think that this rates very high.

I assume from your silence that you are not willing to code this feature.

Would like to use the DVB-T radio signal too. Need not be in MeTV, but I am not sure if you can use MeTV and the radio at the same time (assuming it is on the same frequency, so the DVB-T receiver does not have to retune). BTW, stil searching for a radio proggie to use for this.

BTW installed MeTV 5.17 on Ubuntu 8.04 86x64 from the repository, yesterday. That version is a bit old. Might download the latest and compile it, soon. Maybe there are keyboard shortcuts for changing stations in the newer version.
