ME-TV video /broadcast TV tearing regardless of deinterlacing choices

Asked by John D

I have Mint 17.2 in an amd system, 965x4BE, hd4670 hdmi, giggbyte board 790xta ud4 on a samsung f3 1tv hdd use the Pinnacle PCTv usb pro stick with the 801 driver. It works quite well gets very good s/n ratio and better that in the orig windows 7 x64pro and pinnacle most up to date driver software downloadss
However on play back there is often some tearing, i change the only 3 deniterlace options, one being "none" and the issue gets a bit worse.
i use the default driver option for video from the long list in preferences. i am not sure which to choose from all dozen and a half or so. xshm is what the tiny letters from the list appears to be. it is tough for me to see them clearly, but i am fairly sure that is it
is there a 'best' driver to choose?
are there any ways to modify the deinterlace options through the terminal? I did most of the configuration through the terminal from the web site links for dvb-tv and me-tv that i found from linux.org questions.
just cant find any deinterlacing options nor can i figure out how to /if i can make ME-TV operate through VLC which i have installed along with SMPlayer.
Oh, forgot, i do not get any tearing on the windows set up ,just started to show up in Mint Mate 17.2 just updated from 17.1 i believe the tearing is more noticeable in action, though not much needed. i am using another older "spare" part as the monitor Dell 17" 1280x1024
thanks
john
