need to know how to get the stations that i watch on me tv don't know script language

Asked by Victoria Bushaw-Boichot

I am fairly new to Ubuntu Linux and I have to let go of my cable service. I have the newest version of Ubuntu that isn't out yet which is Ubuntu 11.4 Alpha1. In time it will be Ubuntu 11.4. My problem is that I don't know who to do the script language for Ubuntu only the desktop version. I usually watch the FOX station in Detroit, MI, TV 20 in Detroit, MI, WLMB in Ohio, TBN, PBS station in Detroit, MI and in Ohio, I also watch channel 50 in Detroit, MI, ABC in Detroit, MI, NBC in Detroit, MI, channel 21 in Detroit, MI and G4 I don't know the exact channel it used to be on channel 90. Could you show step by step and help me get my stations on Me TV. It would help me very much if you could.

Thank you,

Have a nice week,

OK, this is a big question. Lets begin with the first step: Do you have a Tuner in your computer (DVB-T, DVB-S or DVB-C)? if yes, is me-tv see it ?

Why do you use 11.4 Alpha 1 ? Do you need a special feature in it ? I suggest 10.10 and when 11.4 is up you can upgrade (actually Ubuntu will ask you to upgrade automatically).

No, there isn't any DVB-T, DVB-S or DVB-C. How can I download and install the tuner? Would it be in the programs to download and install in Ubuntu? Just wanted to know. Contact me soon. In fact the Ubuntu version that I have I am running it from VMware Player. Everything is running smoothly, it's just that I guess I do need all the above that you listed. Please let me know where to find them.

Thank you Frederic Cote for helping me. Please do keep on helping me.

Thank You,

Have a nice evening

A DVB tuner is not a software but hardware. You have to buy one. Here is some example for "over the air" tuner (ATSC): http://www.nextag.com/atsc-tuner-card/compare-html

You can also "google" for others with searches like this "atsc tuner". Before buying one, check if it works with ubuntu, again, google is your friends, ask for the name of the card you choose with ubuntu (i.e: Sabrent TV-USBHD ubuntu)

Please note that you will not be able to use this kind of hardware through VMware. Ubuntu need to be install directly on the physical computer.

Can you help with this problem?
