Cannot turn off sub-titles

Asked by Ken Ovens

Upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to Ubuntu 10.10 which resulted in upgrade of Me-TV to version 1.3.1
I now cannot turn off subtitles. Can click radio-button in subtitles menu and it changes to "None", but sub-titles continue to appear on screen and button reverts to "0: eng" when change channel or if shut down and restart.
How can I get rid of subtitles?
Also does not seem to be remembering choice of storage directory for recordings. This may be related.
Did complete un-install of me-tv, then deleted all directories with me-tv in name, then re-booted and re-installed, but it is exactly the same and problem is still there.

Have just discovered that by removing the entry "eng" in the box "preferred language" in the preferences, I can get rid of the subtitles. They stay away when program closed and re-opened, so that seems to be the cause of that problem.

Unfortunately, the recording directory still seems to change randomly when I change channels. Indeed, just closing preferences menu and re-opening it will cause recording directory to change. Typically it seems to cycle between "File System, my Home directory, and my Video directory.

If I do deliberately switch subtitles back on again, I need to restart program or change channels to turn them off again. Just selecting "None" without changing channel or restarting does not stop the titles appearing.

Hi Ken,

The trouble is that here in Australia, subtitles are superimposed on the
received signal instead of as a separate stream. As for the random changes
on the video directory, I can't explain that! But there is version 1.3.2
available on launchpad I can't remember exactly, but there was a tweak done
on recording so maybe give that a try and advise how you go...
