Blind scan option

Asked by XabiX

Hello,

I am trying to install my satellite dish to the right satellite and I had many issues to be able to figure out on which satellite I was oriented too. (Magnetic compass are not that precise and even less when close to the dish, metal structures)

As I was not able to orient myself I booted into Windows and used ProgDVB program which has a very nice feature called blind scan. The idea is that you can scan and get whatever channels you receive. Therefore you can find to which satellite you are pointing.

I was just wondering if such function could be possible within Me-TV (I don't think there is such capabilties within linux programs MythTV etc...)

Many thanks
XabiX

A lot of web site help you with dish pointing (e.g. http://www.dishpointer.com) This one give you Azimuth both magnetic and true plus a map with orientation.

Adding this feature is a great deal of work because there is a lot of thing to consider (e.g. Location/Satellite(s)/Frequency/LNB) I don't think there is a programmer using DVB-S, we are all on DVB-T/ATSC.

Yeah I knew those sites. Interesting info but not always easy to apply those values when no graduations etc...
With satellite pointer or dish pointer tool you can find easily satellites but it's harder to know which one you are point too.

Thanks for the answer, I was just asking in case this was in the roadmap :)

Is there a scheduled date for 1.3 GA?

Thanks
