Hi Christophe,

That's a good question that deserves an explanation. Let me start by saying that I never really used it and I created it for someome who persuaded me to implement it, probably you :). That said, that's no reason to remove a working feature, right? Now that Me TV can control multiple devices, implementing a meters dialog gets tricky. Let me explain where I gave up trying to implement it.

Firstly, there's the issue of selecting the device. Sure, this is a simple drop-down but it is work and it's not trivial. Second, and this is the big reason, the frontend needs to be tuned to a transponder for the signal to mean something. How do you tune a device that is not the display device? Do I provide a transponder list for you to click on? What if you're recording on that device? What if that device is required for a scheduled recording? When there was only one device and one frequency this was simple, kind of WYSIWYG.

"Ok then", I hear you say "why don't you just use a the display device for the meters dialog". Once again this sounds simple until you actually go to do it. Me TV no longer has a fixed device for displaying, you could be using the first, second or nth device, you don't know. Sure, I can display the device name that the meters dialog is using but what if you don't want that one.

I'm not saying that it's impossible to do, in fact, with a few rules/limitations/decisions I bet it could be done but it required more brain power than I had at the time when Me TV 1.2.1 was due. I did not consider this feature essential for Me TV's operation but proper multi-device support is something special indeed. Also, there are tools such as (t)zap that can already give you the information that you need.

Cheers,

Michael
