Can't use multiple tuners after update to 1.2

Asked by ozsmoka

Hi Michael,

I originally installed Me TV 1.0 through the Ubuntu Software Centre, and I was able to use multiple instances of Me TV to record three different streams simultaneously [I have a dual tuner card plus a USB DVB T tuner]. I discovered the updated version of Me TV 1.2 this evening and after some hassle with errors related to libxine 1.1.7 [ I reinstalled libxine1 1.1.6 and installed libxine1-ffmpeg to satisfy the libxine 1.1.7 dependency issue], I compiled and checkinstalled the updated version ok.

Now Me TV 1.2 can not access more than one tuner at a time. Video, Sound, Signal etc is fine. I can open DVB T in Vlc and Me TV simultaneously [with a bit more cpu usage than the previous version], but I cant open more than one instance of Me TV. I also notice that the 'View' menu no longer has a 'Devices' sub menu present, which used to list my tuners. I could previously open an instance of Me TV 1.0 per tuner and look at the signal strength/SNR output for each tuner.

I noticed that some of my settings remained after removing Me TV 1.0 via Ubuntu Software Centre, so I'm wondering whether I should uninstall Me TV 1.2, then purge any remaining files before checkinstalling again? Or is there another option - ie file/s I can edit?

Not a big deal. I was more than happy to use Me TV 1.0, but I thought I'd have a look at the upgrade and give you some feed back.

Thanks for all your work on this. It is much appreciated.

cheers

Ewan

Hi Ewan,

Thanks for your feedback, it is appreciated. Me TV 1.2 is meant to be a single instance application, designed to use all your devices simultaneously. Unfortunately, I only have one device and there's really no testing of multi-frontend systems. Me TV 1.2 has been sitting dormant for about 2-3 months so I released it because it has some great features that I find very useful and use every day. It is a work in progress and there's no one really testing the development system (except me).

I have plans to get another device soon and I will get the multi-device thing working in the 1.2 stream. Feel free to raise a bug for this issue because I will be working on it.

Due to these changes, the devices dialog has been removed from the application because Me TV just uses all the devices it can open.

Me TV like most GNOME applications, holds its settings in GConf. The older settings usually don't hurt newer installations but if you wanted to clear out the old values I think that this will work, `gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/me-tv`.

Cheers,

Michael
