HD channels not working

Asked by Lazlo

Hi,
I am on Karmic with an AverMedia card.
SD channels are ok but not HD ones.
I tried the #823 settings for xine.config and other values, I changed options in preferences but did not get improvement.
My hardware is a small configuration but reputed HD compatible (Nvidia Ion + 2 Atomm 330).
Is there other parameters I can tune?
Lazlo

Which version of Me TV are you using? The one installed by default in karmic?

I began with the Karmic one (1.0 I think) and then I have installed 1.1.6.

What are the symptoms?

The sound comes and goes. Image freezes or is displayed with a lot of "squares". It is often grayed on rapid movements. Only in HD. SD is perfect. My reception is good (I am near a powerful transmitter and using either internal or external antenna). It seems that my hardware has some difficulty to deal with the stream.

Definitely sounds like a video buffering issue, but let's make sure. Record something on a HD channel with Me TV and play it back in VLC or mplayer with the buffers cranked-up.

It is quite similar to the direct output. In some cases vlc or mplayer are not able to open the file, but totem does.

mplayer is usually pretty good. VLC certainly has issues with Me TV's recorded files, not sure why. Totem uses GStreamer which does have issues with HD streams.

Xine is always solid, can you please try xine (from the xine-ui package)?

Similar result with xine than with totem. The image is similar to the direct output: irregular sound, grey parts or scintillating squares (I miss precise vocabulary...).

So this seems to be a device issue. Does any DVB application work for you?

I tried with cvlc with different buffer sizes and obtained the same behaviour (good in SD and freezing in HD). You are probably right it seems to be a device issue. I have to thank you Michael for the time you spent on this. I will make the most of me-tv as long as we have SD programs around here. It is a very sleek piece of software anyway !

Sorry, I couldn't be more help. Try lucid, the newer kernel might work better.

Can you help with this problem?
