Check to see who approved a message

Asked by dtbusse

Is there a way to see who approved a message? Sorry if this is an FAQ, but I haven't seen anything on topic.

Messages can normally be approved via the web or email. For a web approval, all that is known is that someone authenticated with the list admin or moderator password. For email approval, someone sent a confirmation with 'Approved: <password>' and the messages confirmation token to the list-request address.

Mailman doesn't track which password was used for authentication or the IP address of the web approver or the address of the sender of the approval email.

If more than one person knows these passwords, the best you can do is find the approval time in the X-Mailman-Approved-At: header of the message or the message approved entry in Mailman's vette log, and check the MTA logs for a message to list-request and/or the web server logs for a POST to the admindb page. This can tell you the sender of the email approval or the IP address and user-agent of the web approval.
