Admin/Mod notifications not being recieved

Asked by Kath Crosby

Hi, we set up about 25 new lists via a cpanel installed mailman about 3 months ago. None of them are sending notifications of admin/moderator tasks (eg: new member to approve, or emails from non members to approve). I've checked all the settings I can possibly think of to no result. Help?

You should see the FAQ at http://wiki.list.org/x/sYA9 for information on our relationship with cPanel Mailman.

That said, daily summaries of outstanding requests should be sent regardless of settings (if Mailman's cron jobs are being run) and notices of individual requests should be sent if admin_immed_notify is Yes on the list's General Options page.

These notices are actually sent to the address LISTNAME-owner@ your list domain. I.e. to the same address as the list posting address, but with -owner appended to the local part. Mailman should receive this message and resend it to all the addresses in the owner and moderator settings (one address per line if more than one) on the General Options page.

So, are the owner and moderator addresses deliverable?

What happens if you send a test message directly to the LISTNAME-owner address?

Thanks - have lodged a support request through my hosting co. Wasn't aware of the difference... hopefully they can help me sort it.

Owner and moderator addresses also go nowhere.

If you are saying LISTNAME-owner@... and LISTNAME-moderator@... "go nowhere", there are a cople of problems with that. Mail to LISTNAME-owner@... should be resent to all the addresses in the owner and moderator attributes of LISTNAME. Mail to LISTNAME-moderator@... should be returned as undeliverable.

Yes, your hosting company is in the best position to deal with this issue.
