Explicit Reply-To: header not working

Asked by Glenn Chapman

After following the FAQs for setting up an announcement list I have found that the Reply-To: header munging is not working. I have 2.1.13 installed and the reply to email address is always <email address hidden> on behalf of <email address hidden>.

The current configuration I have tried is:
- Should any existing Reply-To: header found in the original message be stripped? No
- Where are replies to list messages directed? Explicit Address
- Explicit Reply-To: header: used an appropriate email address

Even with the configuration implemented, the emails are still coming with the reply email address as: <email address hidden> on behalf of <email address hidden>.

Is this a bug in the system or am I missing something in the configuration?
Regards,
Glenn

This is specific to Microsoft Outlook and perhaps Hotmail/Windows Live Mail. See the FAQ at <http://wiki.list.org/x/RoA9>.

Note that with Hotmail at least, even though the message is shown as being From the Sender: address on behalf of the From: address, a reply will be addressed to the Reply-To: address.

You appear to be confusing the displayed "From" with the address to which a reply will be addressed. Even with non Microsoft clients, the message will not be displayed as being From the Reply-To: address. Reply-To: only affects where a reply will be addressed, not what is displayed as From:.

Can you help with this problem?
