HP2710p - Has the screen flip auto-rotation been resolved in MR 1.5 ?

Asked by liviococcia

Hi creators, has the problem been resolved regarding the HP2710p tablet in version 1.5 of MR, and if not will it be in a future version?

Is there a workaround other than using an earlier Ubuntu (10.04), Linux kernal, and/or a Magick Rotation version?

regards
Livio

I assume you are asking about the problem with portrait orientation? Is that correct? If so that isn't a Magick Rotation bug. Instead the bug is in xf86-input-wacom, cw and ccw are swapped. Yes that has been fixed upstream at the Linux Wacom Project and the fix is in the xf86-input-wacom-0.11.1 tar. Unfortunately Oneiric chose the 0.11.0 version so it still has the bug. Anyway all you need to do is update your xf86-input-wacom and one of the FAQs shows you how to do that.

Thanks Favux, during the week i'll be installing Zorin core 5 (built on Ubuntu 11.4) to the HP2710p, and will follow the FAQ....

https://answers.launchpad.net/magick-rotation/+faq/1603

..should i suffer the same issues, and will report back here what ever happens.

Favux, sorry for being so new to Linux, but i have to ask, i've downloaded the file Magick-rotation-1.5.tar.bz2, and assumed there was an obvious installer, the simple question is how do i install the package?, i'd be grateful for your help i have search the web but can't seem to find a simple set of instructions.

Not a problem. Did you see my instructions for you at Ubuntu forums? If not they are also in the Magick-readme.txt in the extracted magick-rotation folder. Right click on the tar and choose Extract Here.

Hello Favux and thanks for the help, i'm slow replying back as i've been trying to get Magick Rotation to work before i reported beack, i installed it as you had instructed and it does appear in the startup icons panel on the desktop, these are my problems below..

I've been trying to update the Wacom driver, and followed the FAQ #1603, and did the instructions below..

1: I opened the Terminal window
2: The typed in below..
     sudo apt-get install git-core
3: Then....
     cd ./Desktop
4: Then..
    git clone git://linuxwacom.git.sourceforge.net/gitroot/linuxwacom/xf86-input-wacom
5:Then..
    sudo apt-get update
6:Then
    sudo apt-get install build-essential libx11-dev libxi-dev x11proto-input-dev xserver-xorg-dev libxrandr-dev libxinerama-dev libncurses5-dev xutils-dev autoconf libtool pkg-config libudev-dev
7:Finally the command below..
    sudo apt-get upgrade

I then checked what version was installed, it reported i still had the old one.

Also, when i flip the screen it doesn't always rotate, and the green arrow icon shows the word 'Loading..', how can start Magick Rotation up other than by running it at startup? , this is encase it's clashing with something else loading during startup.

Again, any help would be great, just to mention it does work, but it's working on and off i think because it still loading, also in the Magick Rotation settings i had to pick 'reverse the hinge' mode for it to work first off.

kind regards
Livio
