Maddump with Python3

Asked by Douglas Tuckler

Hello,

When installing Maddump in the latest version of MadGraph, there is a message that says that maddump is not yet python3 compatible. Is there a plan to make maddump python3 compatible in the future?

Thanks!

Hi,

We do not have anyone working on making maddump python3 compatible.
For the moment MG5aMC is still python2.7 compatible so this is the work-around up to the end of the year where MG5aMC will drop python2.7 support and embrace python3 improvement.

In theory converting such plugin should be relatively easy but the real issue is that all the conversion script miss some of the changes and that need a lot of testing/crash to identify all the places where the code need to be manually modified.
If you want to test, I can provide a first alpha version with python3 support such that this work of runnning the code (in some sense to make it crash) can be starting.

Cheers,

Olivier

This branch exists now:
lp:~maddump/maddump/maddump_py3

I have just run the conversion script without ANY validation so it will likely crash "quickly" both with python2 and python3.

Can you help with this problem?
