Background generation

Asked by Guillermo Palacio

Dear maddump team,

Following explicitly the examples of maddump (https://arxiv.org/pdf/1812.06771.pdf). I saw, that always there is an assumption of a known background (which is flat in the scanned parameter space shown on the plots, in this case for the SHiP experiment). I was wondering if it is possible to generate the background using maddump. That will allow me to perform a - cut and count basic analysis- and build the sensitivity plot.

Best regards

Hi,

This really depends of the type of background that you want to consider.
Could you be more specific?

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi Olivier,

Suppose that the signal is from electron scattering proccesses, chi e- > chi e- (with chi, a dark matter particle), and one of the background for that process would be nu e- > nu- e (with nu, a neutrino species). My question is if I could simulate that background using maddump.

Best regards.

Hi,

Yes that background should be doable. (just use the same step as for the signal but define your DM as the neutrino).
(Luca will confirm)

Cheers,

Olivier

(write again in case you get into any troubles, I will have a look at it).

Hi Luca,

Indeed, I do generate that background without a problem. Thanks a lot
