Issue in plotting Z mass

Asked by Aya Ismail Beshr

Hi,

I am trying to plot z mass using MA5. The process including a SM like Higgs boson decaying into z pair and z decays into muons.
The process is produced using MG5 and dataset is at parton level (.lhe.gz) file.

I import the lhe file in MA5, then I tried the following:

plot M(z) [interstate]

but, the plot is empty

Also, I tried:

plot M(mu+ mu-)
select 80 < M(mu+ mu-) < 100
plot M(mu+ mu-)

but, this gives mass around 50.

I don't know why I couldn't have the right plot for z mass at ~91 GeV? is this becausethe events at parton level?

Any help with this issue will be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Aya

Sorry if my question is trivial, I am new to MA5.

Hi Aya,

You select events that feature **at least** one muon with an invariant mass in the [80, 100] GeV mass window. Then you plot **all** the invariant mass of all possible dimuon combinations in the events. This should explain what you observe.

Cheers,

Benjamin
