cross-section of a process

Asked by IPSITA RAY

Hi,

I have a doubt like when we give the cross-section for a process on madanalysis by set x.xsection , which cross section should we give , the production cross section for bsm particles or the total cross section for a specific process ie. the production cross section for bsm particles times the decay widths.
Suppose I specify p p > bsm bsm~ , (bsm > j l+) , (bsm~ > j l-) on madgraph.

For the backgrounds we produce the gauge bosons and then shower them through pythia and use their production cross section on madanalysis.
I am bit confused regarding this.

Thanks.

Hi,

You can provide any value you may want to. However, in principle, you need to provide the cross section associated with the full simulated process, including the potential decays.

Cheers,

Benjamin
