ratio of observables

Asked by Claire O'Brien

Hi,

I'm looking at NLO WW+1jet events, and I want to plot log(pt(j)/M(WW)) (for 1 jet events which are preselected). As far as I can tell there is no way to plot ratios of observables in ma5, can you confirm this?

I think I need to define a new observable in the madanalysis/observable folder, any guidelines you could give me on doing this would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi Claire,

There is indeed no way to plot ratio of observables in the normal mode of the program.

The two options are
 - using the expert mode; that's the easiest
 - hacking the code. What I recommend (to make it easy) is that add the new observable in the list of observables (in the directory you are referring to) and including it in the physics services (in SampleAnalyzer). If you are sure that the selected events contains exactly two W's and at least one jet, this should not be a problem.

Regards,

Benjamin

Ok, I see what to do, thanks :-).
