Difference in dsPHI in 1.1.6 vs 1.1.9

Asked by vivida

Dear MadAnalysis Authors,

Are the definitions of dsPHI different between the versions 1.1.6 vs 1.1.9?

At CMS we are comparing various ttbar+jets samples. One of the variables we compare is deltaPhi between
the daughters of W+ and W-. We find a difference in the distributions when we use different versions of MadAnalysis.

See the figure "dsPHI" in these two links: (you could scroll down to see other variables)

https://syu.web.cern.ch/syu/eiko_madanalysis_1.1.6/HTML/
https://syu.web.cern.ch/syu/eiko_madanalysis_1.1.9/HTML/

We also use our own standalone code to study one of the LHE files tt_madspin.lhe.gz
https://syu.web.cern.ch/syu/standalone/
In this link, you could see the delta phi distributions when it's restricted to -pi and pi too or when it has no restriction.

So it seems that we could reproduce the definition in 1.1.9, but not 1.1.6. We don't know what caused the difference.

Could you provide us some input?

Thanks!!

Eiko

Hi Eiko,

This is possible but I do not remember exactly. Could you please make two tarballs with the two working directory and send them to me?

Best,

Benjamin

Hi Eiko,

Now I remember the problem. There was a bug in the older versions of the code when a difference of anything was computed. Instead of doing a-b, madanalysis5 was computing -a-b. This has been fixed for some time now.

Best regards,

Benjamin
