pp to pair of octet scalars

Asked by Safinaz

Dear authors,

I try to study pp -> S S processes, where S are octet scalars of mass ~ 1-2 TeV and w=0.5 GeV ..
I don't know why madanalysis dosen't plot m(S,S) invariant mass wether by topdrawer vs. sigma when I use
madanalysis installed in Madgraph or vs number of events when I use madanalysis5 by importing
the unweighted events.lhe file on parton level , should I change some thing in plot-card or so ..

Regards,
Safinaz

Dear Safinaz,

Could you please attach the list of commands you are typing?

Cheers,

Hi sir,

Installing Madanalysis in Madgraph

mg5> install MadAnalysis

then after generating the .lhe file of my process

/MadAnalysis$ ./plot_events
/MadAnalysis$ ./td plots.top

I read at the manual that I can add to ma_card.dat to determine the plot ranges, so can add to plot the new
produced S octet scalars ?

Safinaz

Hi Safinaz,

This consists of MadAnalysis 4 and not MadAnalysis 5. I forward your message to Rikkert.

Hi sir,

I tried some thing alse for MadAnalysis 5 :

/madanalysis5$ ./bin/ma5

/madanalysis5$import /<path to lhe.gz file>/ as pp_SS

/madanalysis5$ plot M (S S) 30 0 8000 [logY]

for sigma(pp > S S) ~ 10^-5 pb, but I didn't get the plot ..

You need first to define what S is. MadAnalysis 5 should have returned a warning message saying that the label S is undefined.

If you are using MadAnalysis 4, what is the ma_card.dat that you are using?

best regards,
Rikkert

Hi Dr. Rikkert,

I just use in MadAnalysis4 the ma_card.dat which installed in MadAnalysis directory, I think
I need to add this file to define my new scalar "sr", made some trial to define new class in classes part

# Do NOT put spaces before class names!
# Begin Classes # This is TAG. Do not modify this line
jet 1 -1 2 -2 3 -3 4 -4 21 # Class number 1
b 5 -5 # Class number 2
sr 40000 40000 # Class number 12

then wrote in plot part:

mij 12 2

but nothing changed ..

Thanks,
Safinaz

That's because the 'sr' class is the third class defined (see also the log files for details), so it should be

mjj 3 2

I tried
mij 3 2

Also I tried to plot pt by
pt 3 2

or the rapidity
y 3 2

but when I make ./plot_events , still MadAnalysis doesn't recognize..

Dear Safinaz,

What do the log files say?

Hi Dr. Rikkert,

It says:

ordering function for particles in classes: pt
histograms normalized according to cross section
Final states contain 4 different particles.
particle # 1: sr1 fits in class # 3
particle # 2: sr2 fits in class # 3
particle # 3: sr3 fits in class # 3
particle # 4: sr4 fits in class # 3

 plots set up:
 Weights
 # sr
 Ecm
 Ht
 pt(sr1)
 pt(sr2)
 y(sr1)
 y(sr2)
 y(sr3)
 y(sr4)
 m(sr1,sr2)

Why it understood like that ?

I added the particle class as

# Begin Classes # This is TAG. Do not modify this line
jet 1 -1 2 -2 3 -3 4 -4 21 # Class number 1
b 5 -5 # Class number 2
sr 40000 40000 # Class number 3

Then I tried in plot:

mij 3 2
pt 3 2
y 3 2

Safinaz

Why do you add the sr twice to the 3d class?

Best regards,
Rikkert

That's right, I re-righted to
sr 40000 # Class number 3
since it's neutral ..
