Luciole stopped creating new projects

I was using Luciole to make stop motion movies from still photos. I was able to make 3 short movies (~30 sec) with no problem. Now any time I try to start a new project, I fill in the name, set the frame rate, and set it to manual capture and hit apply, I get no error message or anything and at the top, it says, "luciole: no project" I can't import any photos or get it to respond in any way. I even go back and try to reload some existing projects and it still says "luciole: no project" at the top. I'm using ubuntu maverik and have the version of luciole that is available through the software center or synaptic. please advise. I really like the program and it makes creating movies like this very quick and easy.

Also, I'm having a problem with the play back. I'll hit the play button to view the project and the play symbol turns into a red stop symbol, but I see no playback.
