Why is casper persistence not standard

Asked by C.S.Cameron

After removing mode=77 from the initrd, persistent home seems to work fine.
Adding a new ext2 partition labeled casper-rw makes casper persistent.
Wine works, codecs and other installs are saved etc.
Is there any danger in doing this?

Persistence is not standard because
a) you need to patch the initrd
b) not everyone wants it
c) it slows down operation somewhat
But no, there is no "danger", and it seems you've managed to get it working. :-)

Can you help with this problem?
