System requirements? How large does the USB drive have to be?

Asked by ropers

How large does the USB drive have to be? Is it possible to install more apps when booted into the USB drive (which would require more space)?

Also, what are the system requirements in terms of the PC you're using to boot from the USB drive? I.e. what are the minimum specifications a PC must meet in order so that you are able to boot from the USB drive with it?

The ideal size of the USB drive is 1 GB. You can use a larger one, but that is not needed as the Live system is 700 MB.

The Live USB system is identical in system requirements and features to the Live CD, with the following exceptions:
* The Live USB system requires your computer (BIOS) to boot from USB disk
* The Live USB system is faster than the Live CD
* The Live USB system (from Intrepid on) allows you to save your changes in a "persistent home"

As for the precise system requirements, please refer to the corresponding Ubuntu Live version, since they differ based on which version and flavor of Ubuntu you want to use.
