Better notification area icon?

Asked by Juho Salo on 2008-12-28

Don't know if this is a proper question but could you do something to the icon on the Gnome notification area? I'm speaking of this; http://img184.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshotzm8.png

I know a proper icon exists (the launcher uses it; http://img184.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot1nu4.png ), so why isn't it used?

It's like that because we use EggTrayIcon internally instead of GTK+'s GtkStatusIcon, which can scale the icon properly. The reason for this is because GTK+ didn't add GtkStatusIcon until release 2.10. Even once it was added to GTK+, we could not use it right away because we had to wait until 2.10 was on enough systems before we bump up the min. version of GTK+ required.

I'm OK with bumping it up to 2.10 now that it's been released for 2.5 years, but last I checked Razzloss thought it wasn't a good idea to increase it just for GtkStatusIcon support.

I guess the version bump is ok by now. All the current distros that I checked had atleast GTK+ 2.10 so bumping shouldn't cause too much problems.

Latest bzr has switched to GtkStatusIcon. Let us know if it fixes your issue.

Can you help with this problem?
