Reinstallation not working

Asked by Terpenl

I bought a copy of LRC off EBay for $2.50 and downloaded it to a flash memory stick. I installed it on my laptop. The first installation went fine. It ran the scan but then it did not go to the fix problem step. I gave it about a minute and then cancelled the step. I ran it on my desktop and found that the fix problem step comes up after about 5 minutes of writing the errors to a notepad. I could not get my LRC to run again on my laptop by clicking on the shortcut key or using "open" to run the program. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the program from my EBay link and from Little Apps about 2 times each. Whatever happened I can't get the program to run again on my laptop. How do I get the program to run again on my laptop? Also, should someone be selling this free program on EBay for $2.50? Thanks.

Hi, This program is NOT meant to be sold! Please send me a link of the website where you purchased this from on eBay. I will try and get a hold of this person along with GNU. In regards to your issue, I would try running your computer in safe mode. To get into safe mode, follow the instructions @ http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm. This way there wont be any other programs running. Try reinstall LRC through that and let me know if it works. Thanks!

Nick: here is the link to my Ebay items won screen that shows the name of
the company that is selling the program. It shows that 5 were sold. I will
notify Ebay that this should not be sold. I can't find them listed on Ebay
now, so maybe they dropped their listing. Larry

Nick: I notified Ebay to investigate the seller who claims it is OK to sell
this under the guidelines of the GNU. Do you know what I have to do to get
this to run again on my laptop?

Hi,

I want to know what happens when you try to run the program and if you have tried running it in safe mode. I would also like if you could send me a copy of everything that they sent you by uploading it to a file sharing service like hotfile.com. With this, I can find out if they are following the terms and conditions of the license. I have also found a copycat trying to selling it with a name "Registry Cleaner 2010" and notified the seller and ebay. I do not like it when people do this because it is really ruining what I am trying to do. I have spent a long long time working on this project and I just want to keep this program free for everyone.

Thanks!

That is correct Larry. I have sold (5) of them. This program is licensed
under the GNU License as clearly stated in my auction under the GNU Public
License.

Excerpt From The Auction

*Software Licensing: *Independent Software Is Licensed Under The GNU General
Public License And Lesser General Public License (GPL & LGPL). Buy
Purchasing This Software You Are Provided With A Download Link As A Service.

It is completely legal to distribute this program and many other open source
software titles. All you have to do is distribute them under the terms of
the grantor. It is not a policy violation under Ebays rules as you will see.
Many sellers sell these titles and many others. You can do it yourself. I am
sorry but I am not going to issue a refund, I host these titles on my server
and as it clearly states I provide this as a service because many people are
unaware of these programs availability. I did nothing wrong and gave
excellent service. Please let me know how I can assist you further. You are
however wrong FreeApps.com <http://freeapps.com/> is not the copyright
holder of the program, this program can be freely modified at anytime by any
programmer as long as the original terms are not violated.

Can you please download and run HijackThis! from http://go.trendmicro.com/free-tools/hijackthis/HijackThis.exe. If it runs OK then follow the steps below:

* Once installed open HijackThis by clicking Start > Programs > HijackThis and click the button labeled "Do a system scan only"
* Click the scan button in the lower left hand corner of the interface and HijackThis will quickly scan your system.
* Once the scan is complete the scan button will now read "save log". Click this button to save the log file to your PC. Once you select where you would like to save the file it will open in your systems default text editor. Typically this application is Notepad.
* When it opens in notepad, copy + paste the log to http://tinypaste.com and send me the link

It would also be great if you could send me the files that they sent you. The download link in that email is expired. If you could send it using hotfile.com that would be great and I can have more proof that he is violating the GNU GPLv3.

Thanks!

Nick: I don't have their original file from the download as I deleted it and
tried the file from the Freeapps.com website as I thought this would be the
most up to date version. I can look on Ebay to see if this person Scott

Nick: This guy is running 5 more listings on Ebay saying that he has 10
copies available. At the bottom of his ad it says this complies with GNU
rules that he is charging for the service of downloading the file. He raised
his price from $2.50 to $6.50. Here is the link on Ebay. Larry

Ok, since it seems that the files running on your computer are fine. I am going to ask you to send me whats called an "Event Log" so I can see what service isnt working right. Please follow the steps below to create a log file:

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, then click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. Or, open the MMC containing the Event Viewer snap-in.
2. In the console tree, expand Event Viewer, and then go to "Windows Logs", and then right click on "Save All Events As" or "Save Log File As" on both "System" and "Application".
3. Specify a file name and location where you want to save the files. In the Save as type box, select Comma-delimited text-file format (.csv), and then click Save.
4. Either use hotfile.com or send them to my email account (nick [at] littleapps *dot* co *dot* cc)

I am doing as much as possible to let users know that they should not be paying for this software. However, people don't sell invaluable crap. Also, I am thinking about adding a message just before the program starts letting people know that they shouldnt be buying or selling this program.

Hi, Since it seems that the event log service is not starting and after reviewing the log there is something wrong with "mshtml.dll" which is vital to internet explorer I would suggest to just reinstall windows by backing up your files and formatting the hard drive. Another suggestion, would be to try malwarebytes (http://malwarebytes.org/) to see if you have a virus/malware but hijackthis couldn't pick it up. Or, there is a tool called "reimage" that allows people running windows XP to reinstall the operating system without formatting your harddrive. however, the price is about $50 for 1 pc but there is a deal till midnight for $20 off.

Nick: I ran the malware program and found 2 bad files which I repaired.
Downloaded a new mshtml.dll off the internet. Still LRC will not run. I gave
the link to my friend who said that it deleted 5 bad links but requested
$29.95 to get rid of the other thousand or so bad links. I did not see that
when I ran it on my desktop. Does LRC ask for $30 for a full registry
cleaning? Larry

Hi, Can you please send me the link so that I can see where it is asking for the $30. My software is 100% freeware and only asks for donations on http://littleapps.co.c and nowhere else. You should be downloading it from my website. Something else I would suggest is installing the Microsoft .NET Framework v3.5 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=AB99342F-5D1A-413D-8319-81DA479AB0D7&displaylang=en. Thanks

Hi Nick: I gave my friend your website. Maybe he downloaded the scan for
Registry Reviewer rather than go to LRC. I told him to go to LRC menu and
download that. I re-ran LRC on my desktop and it completed without asking
for $29.95. I did use netframe 3.5 off your link. I can't find my Windows XP
install disk, but when I do I will re-install it which should solve my
problem. I'm giving up for now so you can close out this ticket. Thanks.

Hi, Thanks for letting me know about the eBay scam. It is very unfortunate that people steal other peoples work and sell something thats free but I guess they wouldnt steal something thats invaluable. However, I have added a message in the newest version that lets everyone know that this program is freeware. Please let me know if you need any more help. Thanks!
