Questions about dm-tool

Asked by Laércio Benedito Sivali de Sousa

I'm interested in dm-tool for multiseat purposes, but I have some questions:

1. How does it compare to former gdmdynamic? And to ck-seat-tool (from multiseat-branch ConsoleKit, http://cgit.freedesktop.org/ConsoleKit/commit/?h=multi-seat )?

2. Can I use LightDM/dm-tool to start a X server without putting a login manager in it (something like "handle=false" in former GDM/gdmdynamic's gdm.conf)? For example, start an underneath X server, in top of which I can put nested X servers that do receive the login manager.

3. In "add-seat TYPE [NAME=VALUE...]",
    a) what does TYPE mean? Which values would it assume? Can you give an example?
    b) Do [NAME=VALUE ...] accept the same entries I would have in lightdm.conf?

4. Is there, or will there be, a "delete-seat" option in dm-tool?

Thanks in advance!

1. It is quite similar. I think a bit more flexible... And the only one nowadays.
2. Why? Don't use lighted if you don't want to launch it. Just spawn bare X session.
3. add-seat <xlocal, xremote> [xserver-command=/usr/bin/X] [xserver-layout=Seat-0] [xserver-config=/etc/X11/xorg.conf] (in fact you can use xserver-command to pass anything you want like -auth or -novtswitch
4. I don't know. You can try send a signal to process tree root.
