Can I use Synergy with LightDM?

Asked by Peter Becker

I'm experimenting with Ubuntu 11.10 beta 2 and I can't figure out how to set up a Synergy client before I log in. What I am looking for is the equivalent to this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynergyHowto#Autostart_Synergy_before_logging_in_.28GDM.29

At the moment I still need to log in on the computer itself, but I can't use the main console for login purposes, which is what I want to do.

This is still an open problem for me -- I would like to get rid of the extra keyboard on the desk.

I'm having the same issue. I just upgraded ubuntu to 11.10 which uses LightDM instead of GDM. I took a look through the LightDM config files and didn't see anywhere that I could run other programs.

My guess is we might need to run synergy client somewhere else besides LightDM, such as a startup daemon. I haven't had time to try any solutions yet.

Remove the entries from your /etc/gdm/Init/Default, /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default and /etc/X11/Xsession.d/85synergyc

Add the following line to /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

greeter-setup-script=/usr/bin/synergyc HOSTNAME

This seems to work for me.

I can confirm that the solution tjo suggested works for me as well.
