Store shell information in a user defined place.

Asked by Michael Aldridge

There currently does not seem to be any way to store the information about what shell a users uses in a directory, it would be greatly appreciated if there was a way to do this. For example, my site stores everything about users in LDAP, but each time they visit a new terminal, they must reselect thier desired shell as this information is not stored in LDAP.

To avoid the issue of adding a dependency on more libraries, the same solution as sshd could be used wherein an administrator may configure a shell script which will generate a file containing the users's information, thus the original program doesn't need to know what provides that data, only where to call the script from and then where to get the resulting file from.
