shutdown/restart functions

Hi,

i've experienced some problems with the shutdown and restart functions found in several themes. They're always referring to lightdm.shutdown() or lightdm.restart(). is it really functions that can be used to shutdown the computer?

(I'm on ElementaryOS Luna)
