testing the greeter without loging out

So is there a way to run the greeter in own desktop session to test it for theming?

ok so I found the lightdm --test-mode option to preview it, the main issue is this test-mode show my login window themed correctly, but on real login the login window isn't themed at all... (since gtk 3.20)
