GTK Greeter login screen garbled under Intel UXA acceleration

Asked by John Hupp

Under Lubuntu Raring with an Intel 845G chipset, for this Flash bug (http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1212455) a partial workaround is to set the Intel acceleration method to UXA. This solves the Flash problem.

But it results in a GTK Greeter login screen with a black background, and controls that only display some of the text (the rest being white space).

I installed the Webkit Greeter and set lightdm.conf to use it, but that resulted in a completely black screen. I edited lightdm-webkit-greeter.conf and changed webkit-theme from default to webkit, and that resulted in a login screen under the Intel default SNA acceration, but then after entering the password lightdm-webkit-greeter crashed. But if I change the acceleration to UXA I get the completely black login screen again.

So I'm wondering if there are settings in lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf that might result in a cleanly displayed login screen, or if there is a way I can get the Webkit Greeter working.

This is either a bug in lightdm-gtk-greeter (https://launchpad.net/lightdm-gtk-greeter) or your video drivers. The LightDM project doesnt' do any actual rendering.

Can you help with this problem?
