(1) If you want to install the system on a hard drive previously used by LFScript, you first need to move LFScript (and all your packages) to somewhere else. For example, to a USB drive. It is also possible to create a Live CD, in which case no partitioning is needed.

(2) I don't know why GRUB can not find your kernel. Are you sure you used the commands as described? Have you modified the kernel script?

(3) It is not necessary to create any other partitions other than the one where you want your root file system to be. I explain how to add a partition for /home or /usr, to show you it can be done, but you don't have to if you don't want it.

(4) This sounds like the bootloader was not installed to the MBR correctly. When running "grub-install", make sure you specify your boot (or first) hard disk (and not a partition). So "chroot <target> grub-install /dev/sda" and not "/dev/sda1".

By default, the password is blank. So just press ENTER and afterwards run "passwd root" to set a new password.
