Change username

Asked by Pali

I have LP username pali.rohar. I try change it to pali but this account is registered by someone else. Account pali has no changes for 4 years. I try contact user of this account but without success (I send mail, but no answer). It is possible to rename this inactive account pali (f.e. to pali-inactive)? I'd like have LD username pali, because I have login pali on more servers.

Launch Pad names are unique.
So you are only allowed to take up names which are not already took by some other persons.
It will not be a good practice to change a user's name without his knowledge.
This is because he may have given the same URL somewhere else also.

So I think it is better to go along with your current name.
Or else please put a request mail to the corresponding user and wait for his reply.

There are similar questions where users ask for change name:
https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/74159

LP user pali has no change on his account for 4 years and his email address is not working. I send him mail in few months ago, but without reply.

Hi,

I had gone through the account https://launchpad.net/~pali and done a little exploring regarding that.
The thing is that the email of Pali which is registered Launchpad is with a domain of a construction company.
May be he is an employee of that company, anyway that I am not that too sure.

And one more thing is that we are not able to change a users' name only because he is not using the account.

Anytime we can expect a person to come back to the community (If you read my description about myself on my overview page, you may be able to understand that.) and that time he may not feel good that details what he had provided were being changed.

I don't think that kind of things will not be allowed by the ethics what we followed in this community.

And more than that we cannot assure that since he is inactive in Launchpad, he is not using Ubuntu and he may not require this account. Most probably he can be a non technical user of Ubuntu.
And that sort of guys also need to start use Ubuntu for fixing the First bug that is being raised in Launchpad(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1)

Pali,

Even if the decision were made to do so, it would not be possible to change your account name because you have an activated PPA.

Now is possible to delete PPAs. It is problem with renaming account after deleting PPA?

I do not think it is possible to do the rename because I beleive delete just hides the PPA.

On page https://bugs.launchpad.net/soyuz/+bug/386167/comments/6 is info, that this is possible.

It's perfectly possible to delete all your PPAs and then rename an account.

Ok, so there is no problem with deleting PPAs (and after rename account). Then back to origin question, it is possible to rename (or deactive) inactive account pali like similar questions above?

Yes, an admin can rename your launchpad id after you delete your PPAs.

Hi Pali:

I have renamed the current user 'pali' to 'pali-inactive'.

I am about to change your name over, but I received this Open-ID warning about the implications of changing your Open ID identifier. Please read this over and make sure you understand this change, and then respond back to me, and I can re-name your account.

Thank you, Stefan

---------------------------

Changing your name will change your public OpenID identifier. This means that you might be locked out of certain sites where you used it, or that somebody could create a new profile with the same name and log in as you on these third-party sites. See https://help.launchpad.net/OpenID#rename-account for more information.

You may have used your identifier on the following sites:
http://KDE-Apps.org, http://Qt-Apps.org, http://oi.sk, http://www.KDE-Apps.org, http://www.ksp.sk, http://www.oi.sk.

If you click 'Save' again, we will rename your account anyway.

Ok, thanks very much for renaming my account.

I have one more question. It is possible to reenable name of deleted green PPA?

Hi: Yes, I believe so. Can you just re-create a PPA with the same name?

Thank you, Stefan

I try this, but I got error:
You already have a PPA named 'ppa'

On https://bugs.launchpad.net/soyuz/+bug/392887/comments/37 is, that this is not fully supported.

As I stated above, the PPA is not really deleted, it is hidden. You need to choose a name other than "ppa"
