Zhuang translation page FYI

Asked by Wu Shufei

The translation page for Zhuang language asked for more info.

This language, Zhuang, is mainly used in the PRC, specifically it is an official language of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Province (廣西壯族自治州) and several nearby autonomous regions in Yunnan and other provinces. Zhuang is the mother tongue of around 15 million people, the largest minority ethnic nationality in China. (3 times as much population as Tibetans.). Thus please list this as an official language in mainland China.

It also has two writen forms, a logographic and Latin varieties. Both are currently in use and may require different pages. Also Zhuang traditionally is written vertically right to left so please amend the page to reflect that and adapt applications accordingly.

Hi Wu,

Nice to hear about your suggesting adding Zhuang language to our list, but you need to do several things to make it come true, here I suggest you follow this instruction:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/KnowledgeBase/AddingNewLanguage

If you have any problem, please don't doubt to ask here.

Once this language is created in projects listed in above page, we can then help you on how to start and organize a translation team for that language.

Regards,
Aron Xu

What's more, do you have any plan on leading an effort to translate software to Zhuang language?

Aron, the entry is already there: https://translations.launchpad.net/+languages/za

I added the information about the country and the right-to-left direction to the language page. Does Zhuang also have only one plural form, like Chinese does?

I am sorry, Launchpad does not support different scripts at the moment so you will have to pick one. I agree with Aron that you should first worry about getting translators to do the translations in one script, let alone into two. ;-)

Good luck,
Henning

Thanks Henning, sorry I didn't get any information about how many plural forms does Zhuang language has, we may need Wu to give us the answer.

I have checked the standard made by Chinese government, the Latin based one is the current standard which is defined at 1975 and completed its reformation at 1982.

Here is the wikipedia page may be helpful:
