How do I report PPA copyright infringement?

Asked by Eric Hedekar

Hi, I was recently notified of this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~falk-t-j/+archive/music/+packages that contains a number of Steinberg copyrighted files (all rights reserved). I am not affiliated with Steinberg, but I am a concerned Ubuntu member that doesn't like to see the legality of Launchpad's servers compromised. The packages that I noticed infringing files in the tar.gz of were dssi-vst (the vst/aeffect.h and vst/aeffctx.h files) and wine-asio (asio.h and asio.c files), though some of the dll binaries in other packages are questionable (the vst packages). The debian/copyright file in most of the packages has nothing to do with the package in question, so it's hard to tell.

Anyways, I was looking for a "report abuse" button/link but I couldn't see one. The guys in IRC suggested I ask a question here.

I just noticed the libflashsupport-jack package also has copyrighted files - Adobe copyright, all rights reserved in the source/flashsupport.c file in the tar.gz

I also notice the user has started the Audio Geeks team to continue these packaging efforts. The team's PPA also has the above copyrighted packages. It can be found here: https://launchpad.net/~audio-geeks/+archive/ppa

This is the correct place to ask. The community help person should investigate this issue soon.

Eric, many thanks for the report. We have now disabled the PPA in question and are awaiting the user's response.

I'm very sorry for this.
My though was that, if I included the original licenses, I could distribute the binaries (like 64studio does).

Please delete the software needed for this to go away
(libflashsupport-jack, dssi-vst and wineasio)

Some of the software are also available on ther PPAs (like the main one, "Testing").

Sorry for any trouble. I've learned the lesson

Please take note of this in future, this prevents the trouble for
anyone from launchpad admins. to go and delete the PPA, but we are all
humans so we make mistakes and that's okay :D

Regards,
Vikram

The packages that didn't contain infractions, were all great resources and I would love to see those packages remain in a PPA. I also notice your Lucid Tests PPA still has those copyrighted packages published.

I'm having some problems connecting to internet.

Still, I should take care of this today

Can you help with this problem?
