upgade download error message

Asked by gilman

Everytime I lauch ubuntu I get a a note in the upper right hand cornere alerting me to available upgrades.. But when I click on the icon, and enter my passowrd I get an error message that reads "Unable to get exclusive lock

This usually means that another package management application (like apt-get or aptitude) already running. Please close that application first".

I am unaware that I am running ay other apps, so what does this mean ? I now have 82 updgade packages available for download, but can down load noe of them becaure of this error.

Please help.

you have to open this ticket here https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+tickets. This support area is only for the launchpad product. Anyway check System Monitor to check which applications are blocking the exclusive lock. I'll wait the ticket in the Ubuntu area so we can try to help you out.
Thanks.
