latest version & download on homepage is not actually the latest version

Asked by edA-qa

On the "testplan" project homepage on the right side is listed a "Latest Version is 1.0-candidate" just below it is the download for that release.
https://launchpad.net/testplan/

This is however not the latest version. The newest version comes the same series as that release. If you look on the 1.0 series page you'll see that it has the correct latest version listed on the right:
https://launchpad.net/testplan/1.0

Is this a defect, or what do I have to do to get the proper latest version showing on the homepage?

Yeah, that is kind of weird. It looks to me that the download page is showing the latest release in the "trunk" series. I'll ask Curtis about it when he gets up.

The latest release favours the series that is the focus of development. We have not settled if this is a labelling problem, data issue, or that we want to show multiple releases from different series. (This feature was written for the 1.0 interface. It was recently enabled for 3.0)

I think I may have been confused since I appear to have the exact same release on both the main trunk and the 1.0 series -- I always though I only had one such release.

It makes sense to show only one on the front page, but it would be nice to be able to select which series. Since in our case, and I suppose several others, the main series is unstable and there is a special stable branch.

Is this then a feature request? Shall I enter it and mark this question as solved?

Sorry, missed those two bug links. Solved.

Sorry. release bugs should be inline so that you do not miss them. We still have not settled what the average user expects: the recent release form any series, just development, from stable, from both. Each project has its own opinion. The issue also relates to who is using this release. Launchpad is not an end-user site, so should stable releases be shown? But launchpad is hosting some projects, and this may be the primary point to deliver a stable release.

I'd agree each project has its opinion, thus a selectable series would make sense.

I do disagree that launchpad isn't an end-user site. If we intend on using the bug system and question system, it only seems logical that end-users will need to come here. Or is there an alternate interface to those subsystems I don't know about. ;)
