Please add me as an admin for super-project drupal-projects

Asked by David Strauss

I am currently the admin for the Launchpad Drupal project (lp:drupal). I would like administrative access to drupal-projects to manage the projects and branding there. Thanks.

I have assigned this question to Michael Lustfield, who is an ubuntu developer and the current owner of drupal-projects.

You have only the maintainer this project and the vcs import. This does not justify granting you control over a separate project group. If you feel lp:drupal should be included in lp:drupal-projects you need to do that from within the project you are the maintainer of.

If you would like me to explain to you how projects are added to this group:
 - Go to lp:drupal
 - Click "Change details"
 - Find "Part of: (Optional)"
 - Add "drupal-projects"
 - Click "Change" at the bottom

However, drupal-projects is for projects related to drupal. If I saw that you were making a significant contribution to helping projects within the project group, I would be more willing to change the control.

I updated lp:drupal to have stable release branches, correct branding, and accurate project descriptions. I removed/fixed cruft, including obsolete releases, bugs, branches, and questions. Basically, the Drupal project is now usable on Launchpad.

I maintain the Pressflow project, a popular distribution of Drupal core for large-scale sites.

I'm an elected member of the Drupal Association, which, among other responsibilities, protects the Drupal trademark. I'm also on the Drupal Security Team, the Drupal.org Infrastructure Team, and the Drupal.org Redesign Team. Access should not merely be a question of my activity on Launchpad.

I've associated all three Drupal-related projects I have on LP with drupal-projects.

On the contrary. This is strictly a Launchpad issue. If there were a group like this on drupal.org I would also use that to complete your request. Could you please provide reasons why you feel you need access rather than why you deserve it?

You've been running drupal-projects for six months, and none of the following has happened:
* Seeking out Drupal-related projects on Launchpad and ensuring their inclusion
* Uploading branding for drupal-projects
* Providing a trademark notice for "Drupal"
* Really, anything that would make drupal-projects useful at all

Moreover, the following are problems:
* The support channel is listed as #drupal-projects, which is not in accordance with Freenode rules about official versus unofficial channels. (Unofficial channels should begin with double hashes. http://blog.freenode.net/2008/04/registering-a-channel-on-freenode/)
* Regardless of the # or ## naming, people should be directed to active channels like #drupal or #drupal-support. You're the only non-bot in #drupal-projects.

"On the contrary. This is strictly a Launchpad issue. If there were a group like this on drupal.org I would also use that to complete your request."

As soon as the group was named "Drupal Projects" -- with no qualifier, a name that implies official ties to the project -- you gave up the ability, in at least an ethical capacity, to do whatever you wanted with it. It would not be ethical for me to start a "Launchpad" project on Drupal.org, post something vaguely related to Canonical's Launchpad.net, and then refuse to acknowledge any authority by the developers and owners of Launchpad until they "proved themselves" on Drupal.org.

"Could you please provide reasons why you feel you need access rather than why you deserve it?"

I'm currently rather confused why you feel entitled to administer a super-project you registered after another project's name and then proceeded to do nothing with. Since you've invited use of Drupal.org project/group ownership standards, I'll note that your lack of activity would be grounds for transferring project ownership on a Drupal.org-based project.

David is Drupal upstream, I think the 'need' here is that of any upstream, to be able to garden the entry and metadata for their project.

Hi, and FYI for the record:
per discussion in #launchpad, we've added David to the https://edge.launchpad.net/~drupal-projects group as a co-administrator.

Cheers!

I have been working with other users. I have been doing so without
suggesting they bring their project into the project group.

I was given permission from chx a very long time ago. This was after a
discussion about another #drupal- channel.

This is not a "Drupal" project. It is a project group for others that
wish to have their projects listed on a central page.

If you want to concentrate on bringing ethics from one area to
another... In Drupal land, if a project is abandoned, there are
multiple attempts made to contact the owner and only after a few months
is the project ownership transfered. This was not the case. I provided
instant feedback and only asked you why you felt you should have these
privliges that is pertanant to Launchpad.
