Asked by Dylan Taylor

I was wondering what the difference between "German" and "German, Low" is in the Translation section of the website. Can someone explain this?

German, like most languages has a number of dialects. The standard language, which is what non-German speakers might learn in school, is often referred to as "High German" (Hochdeutsch). Low German refers to dialects spoken in the north and northwest of Germany and is also called Plattdüütsch (I think). For more than you every wanted to know on this subject, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_German :-)
