file browser has no window,takes up the whole screen

when i open file browser there is no window, the browser takes up the whole screen. i can't max or min as there are no win buttons.

got my file browser window controls back. clicked on compiz-fusion icon, changed window manager to metacity, then opened apperences and selected the extra effects option. still got all the compiz effects
