Can a public project have private blueprints?

Asked by Sean Stoops

I know about purchasing a commercial account for a totally closed project. I also know that you can mark bugs as private. But what about blueprints? I haven't seen any mention of keeping blueprints private.

I'm about to start a new project and I don't care so much that the code is open (it will be an OSS license), but it would be nice to keep the long term plans (which may change drastically) private to the team.

(And just for future reference for anyone else, what else is allowed private for public projects?)

Thanks!

Actually let me clarify. We (the project team) want the project to be open for other developers to view and possibly join. It's not an -- I guess if we have to for the free launchpad account -- situation. :-)

Hi Sean,

The reason you saw no reference to private blueprints is that we don't currently offer them. We hope to offer private blueprints in the future though they are not currently on our roadmap.

If you've used Blueprints much you know that the facility is good for tracking the dependencies between a specification and other specifications or bugs. The actual details of the specification are not currently stored on Launchpad but instead we provide a link to an external Wiki where you can put your details. In the past some projects have been able to put minimal information on the blueprint while including all of the sensitive details on their private wiki linked to the specification. This approach is less than ideal but perhaps may be a reasonable interim solution for your project.

Privacy features for FOSS projects are considered on a case-by-case basis. Features available for project that have purchased a commercial-use subscription are described at https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/launchpad/+faq/208 .
