Email notifications now contain a .diff file attachment; possible to revert to inline diffs?

Asked by Nicolas Chapados

Since July 22, 2009, the email notifications sent after commit events contain the diff in the form of an email attachment (with filename "revision.diff"). This format causes problems with the gmail reader, whch refuses to allow files of this type to be read inline (gmail only gives the option to download the file). This makes it very tedious to review diffs, since one must open an external text editor just to read the diffs.

Could there be at least an option in the subscription configuration to send the diff "inline" within the email message, rather than as a file attachment?

Many thanks and best regards,
+ Nicolas Chapados

We've found a combination of filename and mime type that gmail will render inline; I'm not sure what the status of implementing that is though.

The code has been approved for landing, and will be in the next release.
